Deployable Military Shelter Systems

Deployable Military Shelter Systems Deployable military shelter systems, utilized in military bases around the world, are a network of temporary structures that are customized for specific applications and take the place of permanent buildings on military bases. The flexibility and cost savings of portable military shelters, compared to traditional brick-and-mortar buildings, make them ideal for operations in nearly any terrain or geography. At Big Top Fabric Structures, we’ve had the honor of designing and building fabric shelters for the U.S. military since our founding in 1979.

Adaptable to Nearly Any Terrain

Our deployable military shelter systems do not require a concrete pad and can be anchored to nearly anything, including gravel, shipping containers, and asphalt.

Swift Installations

Big Top’s fabric structures can be erected at a rate of 2,500 square feet per day. With proper training, your crew can handle the installation, sparing you the hassle of having an outside contractor on base.

Cost-Effective Design

Our portable military shelters require fewer materials than permanent buildings, helping to keep costs low.

Portability

Mobile military shelters from Big Top can keep pace with evolving military operations. They can be rearranged intact within the base’s footprint with a crane, and they can be disassembled and shipped to a new location for the next project.

Thermal Protection

The fabric cover of our structures is formulated to repel 99.95% of UV-A and UV-B radiation, protecting staff from sun exposure and helping to maximize the lifespan of equipment electronics and paint jobs.

Natural Climate Control

Thanks to this exceptional thermal performance, our military shelters naturally maintain an interior temperature that is, on average, 15 degrees cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than the outside temperature. Maintenance crews will be comfortable throughout the day as they perform their duties.

Energy Efficiency

The fabric cover is also translucent and allows ample sunlight to fully illuminate the interior, removing the need for and operating costs of electric lighting.

Designed for Military Applications

At Big Top, we custom design our fabric structures to meet the unique needs of the military. Many accessories can be added to our military shelters, including flooring, bay and personnel doors, insulation, and lighting protection, which allows the building to be used as a muster station in inclement weather. We have vast experience building the following types of fabric structures for deployable military shelter systems:

  • Hangars and sunshades
  • Large area maintenance shelters (LAMS)
  • Vehicle inspection shelters and guard shacks
  • Chow and mess halls
  • Barracks
  • Warehouses
  • Regionally based cluster pre-position kits

Hangars & Sunshades

Big Top’s fabric hangars and sunshades can be anchored directly to the flight line and ensure mission readiness. They are approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as being compliant with U.S. Air Force Sunshade Management (AFSM), Air Force Instruction (AFI), and International Building Code (IBC). Additionally, our portable military shelters are Berry Amendment compliant.
